Here's what we offer at the New England EMS Institute ![]()
EMT-Basic ProgramEmergency Medical Services (EMS) offers an exciting and challenging health-care career for individuals interested in providing emergency care in the pre-hospital setting. EMT-Basic licensure qualifies the student for an entry-level position as an emergency care provider with municipal and private ambulance services as well as some hospital emergency departments. The growing recognition of the EMT as a professional member of the health-care team has expanded career opportunities for graduates. EMT-Basics are the cornerstone of EMS in the United States. Basic EMTs are taught to systematically evaluate a patient’s condition and provide assessment-based treatment. Our program follows the 1994 National Standard Curriculum for the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, with supplementary materials added to meet the latest New Hampshire Transition requirements. The curriculum includes airway management, oxygen therapy, patient assessment, medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, special patient populations, and EMS operations. We teach using interactive classroom lectures, dynamic hands-on practical training, and a field internship with a busy ambulance service. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs examination and subsequently apply for state licensure. Our program is approved by both the New Hampshire and Massachusetts state EMS offices. Note that in addition to the meeting times listed, each program will meet on one Friday night for Hazardous Materials training and on one Saturday day for Vehicle Extrication training. Details of these times are available; just call our office. Prerequisites: 18 years of age prior to the practical
examination, Current BLS for Healthcare Provider (CPR) card, dated
7/1/06 or newer. (This CPR course is available at
NEEMSI, please inquire)
Applicants to the EMT-Basic Program, please note: To protect the health and safety of students and patients, students entering the EMT-Basic program’s field internship must maintain a health insurance policy and must present documentation of the following:
Complete details of these health requirements will be furnished during the first week of class or upon request.
EMT-Intermediate ProgramOur EMT-Intermediate program is designed to provide the student with the foundation needed to function as an EMT-I in the state of New Hampshire, building upon the skills of an EMT-Basic provider. With the 1985 EMT-Intermediate National Standard Curriculum as its core, our program adds the latest New Hampshire Transitional modules so our graduates will be fully prepared to practice with a New Hampshire EMS service. The program consists of classroom lecture, practical laboratory experiences, a hospital clinical internship, and a field EMS internship. Course and clinical work will allow students to perform advanced level patient assessment, utilize advanced airway devices (including the Combitube, LMA, and King airways), recognize lethal dysrhythmias, initiate intravenous fluid therapy, administer medications, and achieve a higher level of clinical decision-making skills. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs examination and subsequently apply for state licensure. Our program is approved by the New Hampshire Bureau of EMS. A special note to non-New Hampshire residents: Our curriculum is intended to those seeking licensure in New Hampshire. If your goal is to seek licensure in another state, e.g. Massachusetts or Maine, please consider taking a program in your home state. If you are not sure if the NEEMSI EMT-Intermediate program is right for you, please call our office and we will be glad to discuss your individual situation. Prerequisite: Current EMT-Basic certification Current BLS for Healthcare
Provider (CPR) card.

The Paramedic has extensive training in pre-hospital pharmacology, advanced patient assessment, advanced airway and cardiac management, trauma management, and the pathophysiology and management of shock. The scope of practice of the paramedic is rapidly expanding thus creating a number of new employment opportunities. Our nationally accredited, 1,200 hour, 15-month long Paramedic Program is maintained and supported by clinically experienced EMS Educators and Paramedics. Our Clinical Coordinator organizes the intensive clinical and field rotations at over 50 hospitals and ALS EMS services across New England. Graduates of our program are eligible for 34 college credit hours with Granite State College or 35 credit hours with New Hampshire Technical Institute.
