Our 12-month Paramedic program is designed for students that are actively working in EMS by meeting for class only one day a week. Students can choose a clinical site that is affiliated with NEEMSI (See affiliations page). Students can schedule their clinical hours to work around their work schedule.

 

Our program consists of 7 Modules:​

• Module 1: Cardiology, Airway and Pharmacology I

• Module 2: Cardiology, Airway and Pharmacology II

• Module 3: Special Patient Demographics (Cradle to grave)

• Module 4: Medical and Trauma Emergencies I

• Module 5: Medical and Trauma Emergencies II

• Module 6: Capstone

• Module 7: Online Operations Module

 

This Program will consist of 4 parts:

In class (392 Hours): The class will meet once a week for 8 hours for the duration of the course with major holidays and weather considered. Each morning will consist of a quiz followed by lecture. Every afternoon will involve some type of lab, group activity, simulation or role playing. NEEMSI students have access to the online journal Prehospital Emergency Care.

Lab (128 Hours): One day will be dedicated solely to labs every 3-4 weeks. Our labs will involve ALS skills, and simulation in our breakout rooms. Our breakout rooms mimic 4 specific prehospital settings; an apartment living room, an outdoor setting, a nursing home and a pediatric room. We use iSimulate monitors and stethoscopes, a Laerdal high fidelity mannequin, multiple kinds of video laryngoscopes and an ambulance simulator.

Online (800 Hours): There will be an online portion for each module. Most of our operations topics will be compiled into an “Online Operations Module (160 Hours).” This module will open at the beginning of module 3 and close at the end of module 5, giving our students 26 weeks total to complete the module. The student must pass the module with an 80% or higher to continue in the program. The operations module is meant to cater to the student’s schedule.

All topics covered in this operations module are compliant with National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards 2021.

​

Clinical (588 Hours): Our program has 250 hours in the hospital and 338 hours in the field. The projected hours per week for clinical time is 12 hours per week and will begin after competency is demonstrated in Module 1. Out of the 338 field hours, 200 will be capstone with a verified preceptor and the student must document 20 Successful team leads. Upon completion of clinical hours, students will meet all skill requirements in compliance with Student Minimum competencies established by CoAEMSP/ CAAHEP.

Accreditation:​

The Paramedic Program of Elliot Hospital (New England EMS Institute) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (Department) has issued renewal of EMS training institution accreditation at the Paramedic level in accordance with 105 CMR 170.946 to New England EMS Institute.  Approval at the Paramedic level enables the accredited training institution to conduct training at all lower EMT levels. The current accreditation period as a Paramedic level accredited training institution began December 1, 2022 and will expire on December 1, 2025.

Paramedic Program PRE-requisites:​​

• Current certification at the EMT/AEMT level with minimum of 1 year experience

• American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card

• High School Diploma or GED

• Documentation of 50 EMS calls (include 5 QA protected EMS runs)

• Letter of recommendations from your service director AND EMS medical director

• Paramedic entrance assessment (written exam & BLS skills station)

• Pre-Admission Interview

• Required Documents (due prior to your Pre-Admission Interview date):​

  • ​Copy – Current certification card for National Registry of EMT’s (minimum EMT) or state license at the EMT level or higher

  • Copy – Current certification card for American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider

  • Copy – High school diploma or GED

  • Letter of recommendation from chief officer in charge or designee of your current organization.

  • Letter of recommendation from EMS Medical Director

  • Resume (Please add any college courses that you have taken)

  • Letter of Intent as to why you want to be a paramedic

  • Documentation of a minimum of 50 EMS calls. This can be a printed-out list from TEMSIS

  • Copy – 5 Patient Care Reports (QA Protected) written by the applicant. This can be a printed-out from TEMSIS

 

Requirements (Due by sixth week of program):

Immunizations:​

• Measles, Mumps and Rubella:

  • Two documented MMR vaccines or

  • Positive Titers for immunity for Measles, Mumps and Rubella

• Varicella:

  • Two documented Varicella Vaccines or

  • Positive Titer for immunity or

  • Documented date of disease by a provider

• Hepatitis B:

  • Positive Titer for immunity including but not required 3 series vaccinations or

  • Hepatitis B Declination Waiver (Document provided upon waiver request)

• Tetanus:

  • Tdap or Td within ten years

• Influenza:

  • Yearly documented influenza vaccine

• TB testing:

  • 2 step Mantoux test or

  • T-Spot or Quantiferon Gold

  • above within one year

Other:

• Drug Screening (Due by sixth week of program)

• Background screening: NH State; BAAS; OIG/GSA; and a federal background screening (Performed by Elliot Hospital third party; will be discussed first day of class)

• Current and valid health insurance policy
